Muted Mornings

There are no great things,
only small things with great love.
Happy are those.
-Mother Teresa

A muted morning in my world.

My mother and I have been mindful to take better care of ourselves - and each other - since I've been here. Better than we had been. For some reason, this is involving lots of yogurt, almonds, cinnamon and wheat germ. I can't complain. The small things with great love mean everything right now. Happy are those.

Yesterday we drove over to Freeman House together and began packing. I won't pretend as if it was enjoyable. Having until August first to be out of the house so the new owner can move in, I don't have the luxury of calm, reflective packing. And maybe that's a good thing. I hastily shove things - books, yesterday - into boxes, wrestling the boxes closed and sealing them with a flourish of (twisted) tape. But not everything will be stored away. I spent several hours last night listing books on Amazon. (If anyone's curious to see the books I've begun selling off, they are here.) A plan is presenting itself to me and, as exciting as it is, it does involve massive downsizing.

More on the plan later. It is, I'll admit, delightful. Not my first choice, to be sure, but a beauty of an alternative nonetheless. We'll discuss it later this week.

I'm off to the store now to buy more yogurt. Looking forward to many muted mornings to come.

Never a dull moment in the life of ours. God is always at work and we are always waiting. I'd rather for him to he at work than me to try and "fix" things. Can't wait to hear his plan for you!

Bless you dear Brin, I know this will be hard, but I see you have a plan and I'm looking forward to this next chapter. You are not alone!

So glad you have something new in mind and I can't wait to see where your next adventure will lead. But I am very sad to see Freeman House go; it has become such a ritual to read about it and watch you renovate.

Downsizing can be such a relief - I went to Honduras recently for a 10-day mission and was overwhelmed by how happy the children were with next to nothing as far as worldly possessions. It definitely made me rethink my $11-a-day salad habit for lunch and random $60 trips to Target.

Stay positive! :-)

Loving the thought of "muted morning." Quiet, contemplative, not thrilled but not fighting either. One foot in front of the either. Obeying today. Being led . . . one step at a time.

I am glad you are thinking of something new. I wish you'd post something I would like to buy like those sweet knitted toys.
It is good for you and your mom to care for each other, especially now.
Maybe a little cabin for you and Maggie?

Dear Brin,
I'm thinking of you and praying for you. you are definitely talented at making a hard and heavy situation seem a little 'lighter'... but I hope you are taking some time to rest, too. I am happy to hear that you are excited about the alternative plan that is awakening in your heart. looking forward to us discussing that later this week - as you put it :) It's been said before but I know God has great things for you. He does for all that love him and are called according to his purpose. No doubt. not even an inkling. hugs

I think you are extraordinarily lucky to find a buyer so QUICKLY for a "fixer-upper" house in the middle of nowhere in the economic downturn this country is in. It took TWO YEARS to sell our absolutely gorgeous, nothing-wrong-with-it, custom-built house in an area of the country known for people flocking to it.

Can't wait to see what you come up with next ...

I'm sure it will be as entertaining as always.
