Storm

Building storm. Darkening sky. Gusting winds. Gustav, now Ike.

Traffic, slow and angry. Gas stations out of gas. Grocery store out of water. School buses rumbling by full of kids, their faces pressed to the glass. Hurry them home, the storm is coming.

Tonight's games? Postponed. Tomorrow's ladies lunch? Cancelled. There's another storm coming, people. The storm is coming.

My heart goes out to Galveston. I was just there, it seems, standing on the very beaches that are now flooded by storm surge.

Texas could use your prayers today. -Brin

(Saturday Update: It's 10:30 AM CST and Ike is expected to be downgraded from a Category 1 Hurricane to a Tropical Storm about the time he hits Freeman House this afternoon. We're fine here, but praying for the folks south of us. [And, okay, I'm keeping a concerned eye on the wind and praying for my roof, too.])

Brin, i thought you were up near Dallas. WIll yall get any rain from Ike? I'm in Houston and we are prepared for the worst. Well, as prepared as one can get :( Galveston is really bad. It makes me sick to see the waves splashing into those beach houses. I hear some have already washed away:(

You've got my prayers. We have lots of family and friends in Texas, and I love Galveston. We have friends who own a B&B there, and I am really feeling for them. It is lovely.

I pray you are all safe.

The Houston area is a very sad sight. My family was ordered to evacuate, but my parents and extended family are still there. It was a terrifying night for them. Please keep praying for the Gulf Coast and the rest of Texas. We are staying in the hill country and getting 40mph winds right now.

My mom and sister stayed in Pearland. Dad went to Tyler...kinda out of the pan into the fire, huh?

We're seeing wind and clouds here now. (Sat 12:37P)

Brin- I hope that storm has left you with only time to craft and drink tea and read. I'm sending prayers that the storm leaves soon and without much damage!

Brin, I hope you are okay and the roof is still on Freeman House. I thought about you all day yesterday as I watched the Weather Channel showing the storm heading toward eastern Texas. I was afraid for your safety and I prayed and lit a candle for you and Millie.

Just thought you'd want to know that my mom is fine, her home sustained no damage, but her car won't start, so she is kind of stranded. (It was giving her trouble before the storm came, no relation...) She has been without power since Friday night, though and hasn't been feeling well, so be thinking about her!
