Ike Schmike

I'm here. All is well.

Ike rumbled through yesterday afternoon, downing power lines and causing general chaos. I had a room full of folks late last night; since I'm on the same street as a nursing home and the police station my power's always the first to come back. We sat tight and listened to the wind and laughed our heads off and talked about the upcoming Freeman House Fall (Masquerade) Ball. (One woman is bringing an unloaded shotgun and dressing up as Sarah Palin. Her husband is coming as a caribou. Yet another couple is coming as Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson. Too much fun.)

Made it through the night and hurried to church this morning to find it cancelled. No power there either and likely won't be for several days.

The power and internet continue to blink off and on so I'm updating via my Blackberry. May be a little scarce this week as things return to normal. Thanks for the prayers and thoughts! -Brin

Okay... so another of my Texas friends checks in and is fine... two more to go...I'm so happy that you came through the storm without too much inconvience. The party you're planning sounds like fun.

That upcoming party sounds like fun.

We once had neighbors over during a power outage...one neighbor looked at me and asked which house was mine...ahem! She was sitting on my sofa!

Too funny!

So happy to hear your alright, was wondering! And little damage too, amen! We got alot of rain and high winds, lost alot of little limbs but others lost old trees, it was something! Your party sounds like you and what fun! I'm planning a fall open house since we moved over the summer and the inside is just about done! Digging out the fall decorating stuff today! :) Stay safe!!

Oh, I am so thankful that you and Millie are safe and you were both surrounded by friends during the storm. My power just now came on after 28 hours off when Ike hit NE Ohio yesterday. No rain just wind and it was really unbelievable. We had huge tree branches all over our yard and on our deck. I cannot even imagine what it must have been like for you in Texas.

Ike left it's mark with us here in Houston. Because I'm on the grid with the Medical Center, I was able to post updates on my blog pretty much throughout. The city is a terrible mess, but we're far better off than Galveston -- and Chrytsal beach and Bolsivar -- which have essentially been wiped off the face of the earth. Double click on my name to read more -- or if anyone has relatives here in Houston it might be of interest.

Glad you're safe up there and doing good things for others. Amazing that serenitymeadow had power out al the way in Ohio!

Hi Brin. I haven't visited here in a while, but I thought about you over the weekend as Ike blew through Texas. I'm glad you weathered the storm, and sounds like you had a good time doing it. Your masquerade party sounds like a blast! Take care!
