Home

Home is the nicest word there is.
-Laura Ingalls Wilder

Today is such a great day for being home. As snow blows past windows and dances around blooming roses, I sit in knitted woolen socks, drinking a steaming mug of tea and sorting through old photographs. Ah, home. It truly is the best place there is.

Over Thanksgiving, which now seems like 73 1/2 years ago, my beautiful Aunt Mindy and charming Uncle Tim asked me to post more pictures of the house on my blog. I hesitate, because my home... as much as I adore it... is a diamond-in-the-rough type of place. Freeman House is wild and creaky and ... wonderful. Only you have to be a true visionary (or a NyQuil-dependent cold and flu sufferer) to see it.

Take this for example. Oh goodness. Look at this picture. I think it was taken around September of 2004. This is a picture of one of the three kitchens in Freeman House when I bought her. (Yep, three yicky-yuck kitchens.)

This room is now my bedroom. In fact, the two photographs above are of the same wall in the same room. Uncle George's ancient wardrobe backs up against the very spot those dingy cabinets once hung. That makes me smile. Where there used to be disgusting kitchen storage and gummy-residued panelling, there is now freshly-painted sheetrock and a newly-waxed family heirloom. This wall is one of the first things I see when I wake up in the morning. I love it.

Slanted floors, creaky doors, yucky chores... gosh, I adore this home. And while I suddenly wish I could invite you over, slice into a warm chocolate cake, and take you on a tour, I know home is sacred. I know our time at home... our time with each other and with our pets and our projects... is sacrosanct and fleeting. So on this gray, snow-sprinkled day, I simply wanted to say that I wish you warmth and peace and yummy things wherever you are.

...In a word, I wish you home.

Brin, I think I love your old house and it looks like you are doing a wonderful job fixing it up to suit your needs. That is a great wall! I remmber an old house (didn't have 3 kitchens tho) where I grew up in Michigan. It had no paint on the outside; it was dark and weather beaten, a 2 story affair. Your story brought back memories of that time in my life and the house.

Hi Patsy! I wanted to welcome you and tell you I'm glad you're here! Please feel free to stop back in and chat whenever you have the time and inclination!

I also wanted to say hello (and ditto) to HEIDI and KAREN (I can't find links to y'alls blogs), and KIM from DAISY COTTAGE. I'm glad you've all come by!

Wonderful post, I definetely understand your feeling as a proud homeowner, and new homeowner in my case, your place looks truly special.
And yep, "home" is definitely the best thing to wish upon people.

Yes, our time at home is sacrosanct and fleeting and all that. But for me... I love to see peeks inside people's homes.

No, they don't have to take photos from each and every angle, and in each and every room, like they were selling it. {well, if they want to, that's fine with me! I love pictures and will never turn them down! -smile-} But anyway, peeks here and there will be fine.

Well, not unless doing so, bothers anyone. And if so, then they should not even give peeks. But...

Especially for someone like you, who is re-doing-with-love, it seems just perfect to show some of what you've done. As these 2 photos do, wonderfully. All and any more, will be very welcome, too.

Thanks Aunt Mindy and charming Uncle Tim, for getting her to do this! -smile-

And now, since I love to see pics of inside the homes of others ~~ seems like it's well overdue, for me to post some peeks inside my home. I think I have done some, a while ago. But, I must be able to find something else to photograph. Even before we get the tiny powder room re-done after 15 years. -grin-

Djelloul: The Mafia has been portrayed in many ways in books and movies, and I don't have a quarrel with these portrayals, because the Mafia is a work of many facets. Or, when we speak of American capitalism, do we mean jobs for our people, medical care for all of us, decent wages and decent retirements. Hindi Samachar is entertaining millions of people with incredible reports, events, information and gossips. Sometimes local PR can attract better business for you than an article in Indian media. I want them to be thrilled by the idea that each of us is capable of running into high adventure on every street corner and in every friendship.

I believe what you posted was actually very reasonable. However, what about this?
what if you typed a catchier post title? I am not saying your content
is not good, but what if you added something that grabbed a person's attention? I mean "Home" is kinda plain. You might look at Yahoo's
front page and see how they create post titles to grab people to open the links.

You might add a video or a picture or two to get readers interested about what you've got to say. Just my opinion, it would bring your blog a little livelier.
