Dismayed

I say: Seriously? We expected this, but... seriously??!!

John McCain says: I wish Godspeed to the man who was my former opponent and will be my president. And I call on all Americans, as I have often in this campaign, to not despair of our present difficulties, but to believe, always, in the promise and greatness of America, because nothing is inevitable here. Americans never quit. We never surrender. We never hide from history. We make history.

Deuteronomy 31 says: Be strong, courageous, and firm; fear not nor be in terror of [him], for it is the Lord your God Who goes with you; He will not fail you or forsake you.

(I wanted to pull out one of those "wicked prospering" verses but didn't out of respect for my Democrat friends... including my USA Today, attention-getting Grandma, who exasperated our family and voted blue.)

What's that other biblical word the Bible always tells us not to be? Oh yeah. Dismayed.

Dismay: (dĭs-mā') tr.v. dis·mayed, dis·may·ing, dis·mays

To destroy the courage or resolution of by exciting dread or apprehension.
To cause to lose enthusiasm; disillusion

To upset or alarm.

n. A sudden or complete loss of courage in the face of trouble or danger.

Oh. Wait.....

...Yep. I'm already a little dismayed. But I'll try hard not to be. I'll try not to be, even as I remember that He never lets go.... (I'm listening to this song on repeat today.)

Dismayed is a great word for today, but it's true...we should not be dismayed about anything that happens. The Lord God Almighty is in control.
Bren, you are in my prayers. It seems like your world is toppling, but know in your heart not just in your head that you are held tightly in the palm of God's hand. He will work all things for His glory and you are created for just that...His glory.
Keep your eyes on the vertical and not the horizontal.

Me, too. I had taken to my bed, but have now decided that the day must be faced. Courage!

I am thrilled beyond words ...

and yes I am a Canadian and one of many people the world over who are also thrilled and now filled with big new hope. Thankfully many, many people in your country are feeling the same way as is SO evident in the results of last night.

Thrilled, beaming with pride and ...
optimistic for a new bright future.

I know how you feel. The dread seeped in soon after my disbelief. But all night I kept telling myself "God is still God, He won't forsake us." With a baby due in two weeks, I'm not going to let the dread and dismay overtake me. We still live in the greatest country on earth, and hopefully that won't change!

Dear Brin -
Like you I must remember that God is still in control. I posted this morning a message of hope and courage as we face the future here in the U.S. No matter what, He has promised He will never leave us or forsake us when we walk with Him. I believe we need to pray like we've never prayed before. Thank you for your words here.

I am very dismayed. Not to mention terrified. Terrified of what is to come now. I cannot believe what has happened. It is truly a disaster.

Wow-you nailed it, Brin. And I'm Canadian! I woke up this morning feeling very dismayed. I am especially saddened by what he has promised as "the very first thing he will do if he's president" (signing the Freedom of Choice Act). I'm praying for your country and its leaders.

I voted. My guy didn't win. I didn't expect him to after teaming with Ms. Palin. There was just something there?

BUT - my certainty that God had (has) His hand in ALL things comforts me more that I can say.

I will (try)not(to)be mean-spirited, negative or dismayed. Tho I am stunned, I so wish to be positive and uplifting.

God is good, at all times, in ALL circumstances (my pastor always says).

It is tough to swallow isn't it. I'm not one who believes that it was God's will for Senetor Obama to win but I believe God can use it for good. I believe that God is in control in the way that if He wants to stop something he most certainly can but doesn't always. All I know is that God is faithful to his children. I know that he'll hold our hands even when we walk in uncertain times.

This is what I wrote on my blog this morning:

If only everyone who voted for Obama had the same passion and love for Christ. As a whole group.

Wouldn't this world be a better place, then?

I guess what saddened me the most was seeing people crying and acting so gleeful. While I see the historic significance, he is still human and human only.

Not some sort of Messiah.

I feel the same way. I'm not shocked, but very disappointed.

I find it hard to believe in and be pround of a country that sends men and women out to fight and die for our freedoms and then turns around and puts our freedoms in the hands of a man who has so many socialist ideals with plans to implement them. And what's worse, the man does not respect and value life....I find that dangerous.

I am very disappointed in our country.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry. I can see everyone's point of view but I have to say something. I am also a Christian. But why should it be odd for me to cry and be happy to see the candidate I chose win the election. That in no way means I believe him to be the Messiah. It just means I'm happy. I know who my Lord is. His name is Jesus Christ. Why is it wrong to embrace a candiate who is inclusive of everyone, not just the ones who think like him? What we should all be doing is praying for OUR president. Because whether we like it or not, he is my future president and your future president. We can continue the division this country has faced for far too many years or we can embrace each other as children of God and Americans and learn from each other. Children of God and what that means so much deeper than this election.

I am dismayed as well. All I can say is we are now going on to a slippery slope down from here on. So, Christians, I think we all need to be watching for the "Shout!" Won't be long now until He comes for us!!

I'm fighting upstream, too, Brin. I feel flattened, and I want so badly to feel good for the historic event it is. Sooooo... I will pray. That's what the Lord said to do, and maybe if we all rejoice in the face of our feelings of dismay, we can chase off the doldroms. After all, the Lord says He inhabits the praises of His people.

Eyes on Jesus. That's the only way to make it. Keep reminding me. I told someone earlier that I refuse to fold like a two-dollar suitcase, and I mean it! We're strengthened by Him who promised to give us strength when we have none left. He never faints or slumbers or falters. That's cause for rejoicing in and of itself.

Love,

Sheila

Extremely disappointed in the outcome of the election.

And extremely disappointed at the racist statement made by an Obama supporter here. Race was not an issue except with the Obama supporters. And Obama himself who is ashamed of his white grandmother.

A couple of years ago, a friend said that she hoped the country got a Democrat for president in the next election...they would get what they deserved.

I pray that this man surrounds himself with people who know what is going on in this world and can keep him from putting his Muslim friends ahead of this country!

Ivyvine (Elena) -

He's clearly not inclusive of our unborn, yet still living and breathing children is he? Just sayn'...and the Bible says:

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil..." Killing unborn children by abortion is not good. This is not about republican or democrat (God is neither). This is about the battle between good and evil, right and wrong, darkness and light.

"Woe" means deep distress or misery as from grief, wretchedness, intense calamity and misfortune. No longer can we align ourselves with people who openly support abortion/murder of children or anyone for that matter, but most of all, the murder of the most defenseless among us--our unborn children--no matter how they were conceived.

Get over it. Your party had the last 8 years to get it right. No matter who got the job this year has a huge mess to clean up from our oil diggin president Bush. Not only has Bush destroyed your career but he has effected many others. Not worth losing sleep over it. It doesn't matter if you are in the oil business, health care or real estate we are all in the same position there is no job security. Not many people seem to be losing sleep over the children that have lost their lives in Iraq? How can someone be prolife and believe in the bombing that has been going on for years in Iraq? So seriosly history was made yesterday and we should all be blessed that we could see it happen. Sorry for your loss and hard times. Join the club doesnt matter if you are red or blue.

I can't tell you the discouraged feeling I had when I got up this morning. I have had to remind myself all day that He is in control. I fear for my grandchildren's future on this earth. I am so thankful that our stay on this earth is only temporary.

After reading the other comments I just had to comment that I don't know how any Christian could ever vote for a candidate who is not pro-life and I also don't know how you can justify his position on the Defense of Marriage Act. The concept of entitlement is also foreign to me as a Christian.

I have erassed my last two comments because it dawned on me wht is happening. Lulu as well as many others feel that the present condition of our economy is all Bush's fault. So here goes nothing. WE are all responcible for our present economic mess! Most of us have lived above our means, bought things we couldn't afford, wanted what we couldn't have. It's only human. No one man or one group of people have led us here. We could define trickle down economics and look at the socio economic model and see that it takes 8-12 years to reap the results of governments past. This is poly science 101. But that's really not important. What is important is that we take ownership for our actions and stop attacking one another. I know I am guilty. I also have a father and grandfather who faught for this country. My father after 38 years was in the pentagon when it was hit. We need to stop arguing about this. Our soldiers deserve better from all of us. We need to stand together and hope for a better future. Is this man the answer? Well who knows but I truely believe the only real answer will come from all of us and our trust in The Lord.

Coach Krista said...

I am sure many people felt the same way as most of you felt when Bush won the second term 4 years ago. We can only hope it gets better the next 4 years. For everyone's sake. Unfortunately the 8-12 year rule of thumb is going to hit us hard. We have seen the cause and effect of this war and look we are in an economic state of disaster. But this is what the majority voted for 4 years ago. Jenn I don't think anyone is taking away from the men and women who serve. I just dont want to see them serve when unnecessary. I have lost a loved one to this war and don't believe what we are fighting for. My opinion not attacking. Peace!

Are you for real?

The Americans has spoken, and they spoke loud and clear!!

I´m so HAPPY that Obama made it, like Susan says...I´m thrilled beyond words! This gives new hope for the world!

Little Towhee said...

"Wherever politics tries to be redemptive, it is promising too much. Where it wishes to do the work of God, it becomes not divine, but demonic." Pope Benedict XVI

My hope, peace and joy have never been dependent upon a mere human being. I question the rationality of those whose believe Obama is the answer to assuage all the hurts of a suffering world, but such clinging to the belief that Obama will save the world is more proof that each and everyone of us longs for our true Saviour, Jesus Christ. Obama will not fill the vacuum.

If he does, I will be sorry I opposed him. But my bets are on that people worldwide still feel oppressed at the end of Obama's first term.

Meanwhile, I will not let bitterness root in me because I don't want to choke out God's works in me or through me. I see this as an opportunity to partner even closer with the Lord in every facet of my daily life.

I'm resolved anew about my life's direction and what my children and I should live by and learn. Christ transcends all time, all governments. Barack Obama will not and cannot. I urge those who "believe in Obama" to be careful where they place their hope.

But I do wish the Obama administration and our wonderful country well.

Dismay is a good word to describe the feeling. With good measures of RESOLVE, FAITH, and LOVE. I feel a little bit that we are going to need a great deal of forebearance and forgiveness in our hearts when after time passes, some folks may regret their vote and want to "come home". We may have some prodigals in time when they see hope has been misplaced.

There will always be a destructive pride in our world. Losing brings out the worst in those who cannot bear humility.

Ultimately, only God knows the effects of any government placed in authority. None of this surprises Him.

I ask those who feel a thrill at the thought of the first minority President to see the racism in the emotions they express. How would people react if someone said, "I am so glad a white man won!"

We need to get beyond his skin color and look at the content of his character. But for some reason, the people who supported him are still making an issue of his skin color.

Dismayed. Disappointed. Discouraged.

This is how I feel reading all of these posts. Christians, who are lead and loved by The King of Kings and are here by the grace of The One who was sent down to save ALL of us, not just a privileged few, would be the authors of such hateful comments. We are told by God to "...worry over NOTHING & Pray over EVERYTHING..." To fear this man is to be fearful because of ignorance, to fear what you do not know.

To think that people really believe that he only won because of the color of his skin. You should be ashamed of yourselves. If you don't understand by now what he is telling the American people, then you will never get it. I refuse to think that this is a terrible time in this country. I know better because I may not be where I want to be, but my loving Jesus knows that I am more than where I am today. I will never give up & I believe in HOPE. If I didn't have HOPE, I would think that this is a terrible place to be in America, but I refuse. I also refuse to think that Barack Obama is a man who wants to bring this country down. If you believe that, you haven't been paying attention. Things happen for a reason and they are part of a bigger plan. This is the reality, Obama earned his way to the Presidency & he will be a wonderful President. There is nothing that you can do to change the outcome to the election. You can however, change your attitude. Keep God's love in your heart and keep your mind open. The rest will follow.

I am a proud supporter of Barack Obama and I am an even bigger lover of Jesus, who is my source of strength in times of trouble. I would not be here if it wasn't for Him and neither would my child. I will be an Obama supporter who will walk the walk and do my part to make this country great by helping where I am needed.

I was reading the comments with such a heavy heart, but it is your right to speak your mind. Take care.

Little Towhee-

Well said.

Elizabeth-

I don't think everyone said he won because of race. And how exactly did he EARN this presidency? By having the right connections? By being a charismatic speaker?

Little Towhee said...

Elizabeth,

McCain also offered change for better for Americans. Obama's ideas for change and how to bring that change about is what is scaring people.

Obama offered tax cuts for 95% of the population. You can find extensively online how fraudful and unexplained such promises are. . . they sound good to you, yes. Obama is being exposed as a Marxist, Socialist (finally) by the mainstream media. Do you understand that Socialist experiments have failed historically? When Jamestown was first being settled, socialism was being used. . . all the men shared stores and supplies equally despite some men being lazy and refusing to labor. The working men felt burdened unfairly, lost desire to work, and the settlement began to languish. It wasn't until John Smith became their leader and enforced a new, Biblical principle: "Those who do not work shall not eat." (Look in Thessalonians for this scripture and context.)

John Smith's leadership helped save the Jamestown settlement.

Furthermore, welfare and Christian charity are two different things. The secular government shall never be able to dispense the ministry of Christ as Christians will. No matter how much/how little money a person has, he will still be hungry and hopeless if he does not know the Lord as his Saviour. Obama's not interested in sharing our Saviour. Obama will not heal the world, and Socialism has been a proven failure.

What hope does Obama offer you exactly?
The hope to end war? (He'll never do this.)
The hope for money or material things? A bigger home? (He will only steal from others to do this. This is not Christian. You're best to store your treasures in Heaven.)
The hope to save human lives? (How about the unborn human?)

What exactly has Obamma sold you besides vague ideas based on "spreading the wealth"?

Is it because he is biracial that people feel like they really have a chance in life? (If so, that's great. But it is unwise to choose a candidate based on his color instead of the content of his character. Which by the way, Obama told half-truth and lie after lie, supported by the mainstream media, during his campaign.)

Maybe the Lord convicted you to vote for Obama, but I'm unconvinced that Obama is the answer to the world's problems.

Again, be careful where you place your hope.
