Sunshine Daisy Pinwheel Presents

My first memory is of the brightness of light -
light all around.
I was sitting among pillows
on a quilt on the ground.
- Georgia O'Keefe

I'm working on a quilt for someone very special. A Christmas gift, of sorts, made with more love and hope and excitement than I would have believed possible.

Hancock's was busy this past Friday, but I braved the long line at the cutting counter and returned home with enough yellow yardage to make my pretty pinwheels. I'm hoping to get this sweet thing pieced in the next two weeks and then drop it by the long-arm quilting shop to finish the rest. (Hey. It's Christmas. And after eyeing my still-to-be-knitted list, I know my limitations.)

I've never pieced a quilt like this before. Have you? I got the idea from Susan Branch's quilt pattern, and then ran with it... planning every detail down to the yellow polka dotted binding. I've been eager to start it - so eager - and even more eager to see it take shape. I want it... just the sight of it... to conjure up sunshine. Sunshine and soft, buttery morning light. And daisies. Hundreds of little daisies. Fields of daisies nodding in the wind....

Kind of like that perfume ad with Gweneth Paltrow and the puppy. I want the quilt to conjure up that.

[Ahem]

Can you believe it's already Christmas gift time? I feel as though I'm down to the wire, although there are several calendar squares yet to check off. What about you? Have you finished shopping or making? Are your sunshine/daisy/pinwheel presents coming together?

It sounds like the quilt will be lovely.

I know the rushed feeling of which you speak. I'm hoping to do a nearly entirely hand made Christmas, and feel the crunch. 8 down, and (?) more to go.

Good luck with all your projects!

I love the colors you are using for the quilt! Good luck with it.
I'm a little confused, are you home or on the road??

I'm on the road, (un)fortunately! Still not sure how I feel about being gone although I've been gone a month now. Means to an end, I suppose...

You're sweet to ask, and I guess the pictures are a bit confusing...

:D

The quilt will be fantastic, I'm sure, but am wondering if we will ever know the answer to your mystery trips. Hmmm?

I love that sunny color. A favorite of mine. I'm just picking up quilting after a many year's break. Like you, I'm eager, eager, to get to it.

Have fun with the quilt. Don't get sun-burned.

Yellow is my favorite color. Someone's mighty blessed to be receiving this special quilt.

Awwww, my plans for making gifts have gone awry. I was going to whip up some aprons and pillows. Now I realize that I have been much too ambitious, but perhaps I can get them completed for Christmas 2008.

I love the whole idea behind behind this lovely quilt, and I know it will match that commercial perfectly! I don't have time to quilt this year but do feel rushed to get my projects done and it's just now turning December! At least you have your projects to make you feel at home! Hugs!!

Yes, I have used this pattern with the pin-wheel blocks set together with no spaces. I used pastels for baby quilts for a friend and my grandson. They were really cute. I know you'll be happy with it. I'm new to your blog but I see that you've come a long way from the first entries. I'm so glad. I love the house and will be following along.

Hi Brin,

Someone very special is going to have a beautiful keepsake. I've only made several quilt squares for a family quilt and that was enough for me :). You are truly a very talented young woman!

I just stumbled across your site yesterday and love it. The house renovations are so fun and exciting, too! Keep up the good work.

Looking forward to your quilt. I'm waiting on one to return from the longarm folks now, :).

You do not have to have a rack of hexagon solid weights if you very own
adjustable types.

Those who are not that experienced in lifting weights tend to be more prone to
