Monday Brain

My Must-Do List this week is getting me down. Especially because I woke up with a monster awful sore throat and aches. Ain't nobody got time for that!

There's so much I want to say this week about the stock market, the deal with Iran, and what this fall has in store for us. It surprises people, I think, when they meet me and realize I'm not all gardens and homemade bread and refinished floors. I bore people to death with documentaries on Netflix and random YouTube videos. In real life, I'm a pretty intense person. (Or so I'm told.) As a former reporter, I live and breathe news. And stock market reports. And economic collapse blogs. And weather model forecasting. But here, none of that. Here, I'm sink-shining Brin with a long Must-Do List.

We're okay with that, right?

I think of all the things I have to tackle this week, getting back into bread making is what I'm least dreading. Fresh bread! There's something everyone can agree on. My banana bread recipe is an old favorite on this blog. (You can find it here.) In addition to having some banana bread tucked in the freezer, I also want to have bread dough I can pull out and bake in a flash. Omgosh, have you seen that they came out with a NEW Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day?! I'm so excited. I have the first (old) copy and the master recipe for the Boule (the artisan free-form loaf) is my favorite, favorite bread ever. It's ridiculously easy, even if you don't bake.

So. The kitchen. We've had a brief hold up in there. It's me. I can't decide what to do with the countertops, so everything's come to a stand still. I'll show you tomorrow and maybe we can come up with something workable.

In the meantime, happy Monday! And happy back to school to all those headed back today. May God keep you all! -Brin

  1. I'm getting in the bread baking mood too! And I can't wait to see what's going on in the kitchen!

  2. Are you my sister from another mother? I describe myself as equal parts fun and intense. Nothing wrong with that!

  3. That is one long list . . . It kind of reminds me of my own lists . . . ;D

  4. Oh Brin, I love those bread making days and even more so in fall. I just pulled 4 fragrant loaves of multigrain bread from the oven!
That is a long list but it doesn't all need doing in one day does it? Tell me it's not so.

  5. Oh, no, Brin... I can't imagine anyone who reads (really reads) your blog could possibly consider you light-hearted, one-dimensional, or unintelligent. (I often get the same looks, and even sneers, from people because I smile all the time) but you must try to stop reminding us that you are aware of the world's problems and giving your resume. You have a gift - a TRUE gift- for writing and letting us escape through your beautiful, descriptive narratives. Thank Jesus, Thank God, for that gift and use it to glorify His wonderful gifts to each of us - His gifts of beautiful days, interesting neighbors, beautiful homes that are saved for future generations, delicious food, talented gardeners, etc..... Do not focus on the negative things we have little to no control over. If we wanted that, we would tune into the news. Be a light, a beacon. We have enough darkness.

  6. Anonymous- thanks for your opinion. Wish I knew who you were so I could message you privately! The thing about writing a blog is that while YOU may be familiar with what I'm aware of and my "resume", new readers of this blog are not. And my readership is drastically different than Freeman House days. Know how some television shows begin with, "Previously, on... [name of show]"?. Occasionally, I must do the same for readers who haven't been around long or haven't read through archives. :)

I think the problem with today's society- and especially with today's church- is that we aren't focusing ENOUGH on reality. We're willfully blind with our fingers in our ears, hoping the beautiful days, interesting neighbors, and beautiful homes distract us from the reality of the times we're living in. The challenge I'm faced with is appealing to that crowd while also beginning to softly, in my own way, blow the trumpet.

Thanks for your comment all the same. I appreciate and respect your opinion!

  7. My job gets intense at this time of the year. Sorry for the lack of comments lately! So, I'm catching up and I want to you know that when I'm not reading your blog, I offer a daily prayer for you and your family's well being. I know you have a lot of decisions to make and to be made. I'm confident in your ability to "get it all done." And, just think, the decision comes when the time is right! So if it seems like you "can't make up your mind" then, the solution hasn't been presented to you in the right way yet! Let the process take its course.

So, with that all said, can you tell me how you made that darling to do list???

  8. I LOVE Jonathan Cahn!! AND, I love knowing that you are so varied in your background and interests....from Oil Diva to News Reporter to Home Making (Life Making) and caring for others thru your ministry of love to the needy and heart-broken. You simply landed a bit higher on the food chain than many do and yet you set that aside to live deliberately...it's not a fault or something to hide. Bubbles rise to the top quickly. It is what it is.

Oh, and, thanks for the peek into your messy thrilling life....and thanks for not hiding or downplaying the really really tough things you've been thru. You lived those as honestly and deliberately at you plant your garlic.

    ((hugs))
