Zooey, Bad Dreams and the Garden

This is Zooey Deschanel, not me. Although, once I cut my hair, we'll have the same hair. I love Zooey Deschanel and want to be her when I grow up.

I looked through a lot of Domino Magazine images this morning around 3 AM when I couldn't sleep. Last night I dreamed of the one I spend all day trying to forget, and woke sobbing puddles into my pillow. So I pulled up my laptop and went online to Domino because it's one of my online refuges with all things fancy and wonderful. Of course, the site is plastered with notices that March 2009 will be Domino's last issue. Stupid economy. I teared up again, blubbering something about how there's really nothing in this life you can truly hold on to, be it men or magazines....

Suppose I'm a little glum today. Think I'll take myself out to the garden. Fresh air and loamy soil always happys up my world.

  1. Have fun digging in the dirt!! Planting things always makes me feel better. It's like the promise of something new...

  3. I hope you garden helped.
And I visit your blog and about 5 other favorite along with victoria magazine's site to cheer me. I admit knitting & yarn make me a happy girl when I'm sad.

  4. Oh Brin, you are our Zooey! So many good magazines are shutting down, makes me sad.....but working outside in a hopeful garden always makes me happy too! Squeeze some soil for me!

  5. I sympathize! And we're losing Country Home and more importantly Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion magazine.

There is truly nothing like dirt under the fingernails to make one feel better. I'd go out and dig a little myself . . . except the ground is frozen and covered with snow!

  6. Oh I love Zooey too! She's just so darn cute and so free thinking. :) Things will start looking up, Brin. Keep those eyes pointed towards those blue skies. :)

  7. First Blueprint and now Domino ... I hear ya sister - it totally sucks. My two most favourite inspirational magazines.
At least we can take comfort in the fact that we're all in this mess together - my frugal girl, dirt poor self has never felt such kinship as I have of late. Cheers from the gang in Nova Scotia

  8. See, it's The Domino effect...sorry I could resist a pun. But SO MANY of our favorite magazines are falling down...like dominoes. It's sad. I am going back to my archive...my closet shelf that is full of some of my favorites. And that photo is stunning!

  9. I DID think that was YOU ! From what I could tell you look very similar.
You are lucky you CAN go out and play in the dirt.
    Enjoy.

  10. I hope the garden brought you cheer. Even though it is 25 degrees here today, I can smell the depth of the soil in my mind's eye. I know you already know this, but He is forever. And there will be another Domino someday (although I'll miss it in the meantime too!! and Cottage Living . . . oh my cottage living . . . )

  12. You might be a little glum today, but you have made me VERY happy, as I received my Etsy order of the wonderful house helpers. Thank you for the lovely card.

I am going to attempt to make some with the pattern that you generously shared and my pitiful knitting "skills" and it will be a big help to have a finished one to look at as I knit. Thank you again!

  13. P.S. I am going to miss Craft magazine, too, as the current issue is the last one they will publish.

  14. This IS bad news! Men can bring on the heartbreak, but Domino magazine? That's a downright tragedy. Especially since I just got a subscription. Sigh.

  15. Yeah, and today, my last issue of Country Home came... they apoligized...said the rest of my subscription would be Home and Garden...lot of things ending because of this economy.

Honestly though, some of these blogs are just as good if not better than magazines.. and your's is one of them...

    Love this blog!!
