Aprons... and Fair Warning

Spring Apron Toolbelts are going up throughout the week and weekend in the Shop. These tend to go quickly, so don't miss out!

And... wow. Brace yourself for this. My Messy, Thrilling Life, this blog I've dutifully posted to and worked on for almost four years, will be shutting down on Tuesday, April 7. I'm telling you now, way in advance, so you can copy down favorite recipes, quotes, or other tidbits you may have found pleasurable and want to keep. I'm also telling you now so you can post a comment to this post with your name and email address to get on the upcoming Freeman House Newsletter, which will begin going out via email in May. Consider it a concise version of the blog... still with photos and recipes and news... but minus the ramblings and things of a personal nature that we're used to finding here.

Why? Why will this blog be gone on April 7th? Well, it's simple, really. I'm ready to move on. April 8th I turn thirty. 30. I'm ready to kick off a new decade afresh. I'm ready to funnel my creativity into new projects. I'm ready to reroute the time I devote to this to other ventures. Yeah, I guess I'm simply ready to leave this behind.

So. There you have it. I'm leaving the comments open on this post until the end, so feel free to rail or complain or give me your reasons why I shouldn't quit the blogging forum. Only be sure to leave your information so I can keep you advised on what's going on with the house, garden, kitchen and other various upcoming events and happenings at Freeman House.

It's been a wild ride, hasn't it? Thank you for joining me. It's been such a pleasure to take you along on my messy, thrilling life.... -Brin

  1. Goodness me, this is rather a shock! I visit your blog almost daily, and whilst the relationship is entirely 'one way', I have felt nurtured, astonished, loved, inspired, surprised, challenged and stimulated by 'My Messy...'

However, I completely respect your decision and thank you, Brin, for sharing your life with us.

I would love to recieve a newsletter in the future.

Lots of love for the future!

  14. Oh, Brin! I just found you a few months ago and now you're leaving me! I've been so amazed by your posts - mostly the ones about yor faith in a loving God! You have really made me think and that is a good thing!

And let me share this with you - I will be 57 on April 23rd, and my life really started in my 30's! I met my wonderful husband, got married and started realizing what life was supposed to be all about for me. I hope you find your 30's are your best decade yet!

  16. I'm sad. I'm going to be selfish for a moment and say, I don't want to see you go! I come here everyday to check on you, savor your recipes, laugh, cry, pray and be inspired. With that said, I do respect your decision but I will miss your blog! Losing your blog is like losing one of my favorite magazines! Please sign me up for the newsletter so I may keep up with you and Millie, Freeman House and gardens. I hope you find peace, my 30's were full of change and growth, my best years. I love ya Brin, I miss you already!

  17. I just had a thought, somewhere I read where you can turn a blog into a book, does anyone know? And, just how long will your blog be up, I mean, you can leave it up without posting so we can copy and paste our hearts out? Just in case you want to pop in now and again? I'd hate for you to lose your rights to the "Messy, thrilling Life.

Thank you for all your words of wisdom and encouragement, recipes, beautiful photos, EVERYTHING! You are truly inspiring. I also live in an old house that resembles Freeman House on the outside-chipped paint, old windows, etc... You have helped me love my old, chippy house even more. You have even inspired me to tackle some projects that I didn't think I had the ability to do!

I will miss you, Millie, and Freeman House. Please sign me up for your newsletter if you must go. tammy@yourstoryhour.org

One more thing. I have slowly been reading your blog from the beginning. Will it be gone forever on April 7th? Better get reading!

  70. Brin,
I have been a lurker since I happened on your blog less than a year ago. I have so enjoyed reading the happenings in your life; its been a little escape for me every few days to catch up on your blog.

I understand what in one way seems to be a sudden change to us readers, but has been a long time coming for you. I've noticed your increasing discomfort lately and recognized how God has been preparing you for a change of season and an uprooting so to speak.

He does this in my life anytime there is a new season coming for me. I become drastically and exponentially uncomfortable in my environment in every way. I've come to see over the years this is his way of shifting things spiritually in my life so that I am ready when it is HIS time for the change in MY life.

I thank you for giving to us, (to me), portions of YOU every day. And I bless you in the name of our God Jehovah that in your days to come you WILL find increase, you WILL find His hand gently & sometimes forcefully guiding you, that you WILL find the destiny your heart is burning after and you WILL find peace, security and confidence in following God's voice as you make the changes He directs you to make.

I selfishly hope you will start another blog at some point, but in the meantime, know that I (an absolute stranger, but a sister by royal blood) will pray for you daily in all your endeavors. May God bless you (and your puppy) on this compelling, new journey He has set your feet to!

    ~ Sharon T.

Your blog has been so refreshing, interesting, insightful, full of wisdom, fun, exciting, precious, exquisite, straightforward, honest, rollicking, hilarious, beautiful, breathtaking, wonderful, glorious, remarkable, sparkling, homespun, and so very adorable!! It is one of my favorite blogs ever!

Your blog is about your life, but your life isn't your blog...you have new and exciting things to look forward to...

I love this verse and it just seems to fit so nicely:

    Isaiah 43:18-19
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.

I think the thing that helps in this situation is your newsletter, we all feel like we know you and want the best for you, so letting us know how you are will be wonderful! Can't wait to see what great things the Lord has in store for you!

  188. Psalm 37:3-8, 18-19, 23-24

Brin, I wanted to leave you those verses because they really comforted me today and I thought you would enjoy reading them too. The whole Psalm is good, of course, but I especially was encouraged by these verses.

I am also greatly encouraged by your blog! I will miss reading your posts every day. You have such a gift for writing, I so enjoy reading what you say and viewing the world through your eyes. You offered an outlook on our world that was both refreshing and encouraging and I am going to miss you!

I have a request to make: Even if you don't continue to post, please don't delete your blog. I enjoy just browsing through the archives and reading about your trips and other adventures you have had. As someone who is just entering her 20s I appreciate reading about the things you have gone through and hearing how God and blessed you and provided for you and how you have made lemonade out of the lemons you have gotten. I would like to save your whole blog so I can go back and read it, but I don't have room on my hard drive. :) It just seems like such a shame to lose all the hard work and beauty that you have put into the last 4 years.

    Okay, I'm begging here! :)

Of course, any decision you make will be respected. But I, and I think others, will really miss going back and looking over what you have written. I would appreciate it so much if you left the blog up.

Pretty please sign me up for your newsletter too! I think that you should be able to get my email address through here, but if not please mention it so I can send you my email address (I don't want to put it out here publicly).

Wishing you every blessing and good thing this year and every year to come. Happy (early) Birthday.

    Luv in Christ,
    Gracie :)

  193. I will be sorry to see your blog shut down. My sister told me to check you out after I complained about not finding a good conservative blog by someone who knits. So, you have been an inspiration to me. I wish I had your wisdom at 30. It only took me 50 years!
