I found a lizard, Mom! I found a lizard I found a lizard I found a lizard.
Watch me catch him! Watch me catch them all. Watch me... watch...
... he got away. I didn't know lizards could move that fast.
Better. Let's just lie here on our backs and look up at the sky and think of all the lizards I'll catch some day. You know, when I'm bigger.

ReplyDeleteCrate training is best for house breaking, she will learn quickly to not 'go' where she lives, but I do not believe in crating all day. Like when she's older and you leave for work. I know I wouldn't want to be in a little box all day, and neither do my dogs.
Please do not get all stressed out during her puppy phase. Just love her and be her friend.
My word she's gorgeous! What a darling, and who cares what she's chewing when she looks that way. She will be a great companion for you when you're at home. I'm self-employed, too, and I used to be lonely - until my pup arrived!
ReplyDeleteHer blue eyes will change colour, so watch out for them. I thought my girl would go through life with blue eyes, but it's a puppy phase. She's half chocolate lab (and half springer, so a bit fluffier).
Some other things that I learnt during puppy time:
1. Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner before, and in front of, your dog.
2. Calm owners = calm, sleepful dog.
3. Too much dairy = bad, as when they get older, dogs can develop an aversion. However, pups benefit from natural yoghurt, about 1tbsp per day, with their food.
4. Throwing sticks = very, very bad. Avoid throat cuts, use balls!

ReplyDeleteOne thing we've learned with our dogs is that it's important that they submit to you and you can do submission exercises like making them lay on their backs until they stop wiggling and let you hold them down, or gentling holding their heads and faces until they stop wiggling and let you hold their faces and head...it means they are submitting to you as their leader. It sounds weird, but it really helps with dominant breeds. Our 6 dogs range in ages from 7 to about 9 months old. They really do become your friends. :)

ReplyDeleteI would have advised the crate, as well. We love them for our two dogs. One spends more time in hers because she feels safer there than the other.
Otherwise they have become the place they go when we have to be away for a few hours.
It was wonderful for potty training, though, since a puppy will try very hard not to mess up its bed.
